CMIS Protocol Analyzer.
Register-level CMIS decode for Saleae Logic 2.
A CMIS exchange on the wire is a paged, stateful conversation. A single register read means writing a byte offset, a repeated START, then a read. What that offset means depends on a bank and page selection that may have been set in an earlier transaction. A generic I2C or SPI decode gives you the bytes; it cannot tell you that byte 0x9E was Page 11h, byte 158, Lane 3 Tx output power. Reconstructing that is what the Binho CMIS Protocol Analyzers do.
// key features
What it does.
- Three analyzers: I2CMCI, SPIMCI & I3CMCI
- Page & bank state tracked across transactions
- CMIS revision selector: 5.2, 5.3, 5.4
- Transport decode built in, no extra analyzer
- Searchable Data Table: page, byte & field
- Bus errors and partial frames flagged in place
- Over-length & out-of-model accesses flagged
- Built-in simulation mode for every transport
- Cross-Platform: Windows, macOS & Linux
- Logic 2 Automation API compatible
- Register-level decode: pages, banks & fields
// transports
One decode engine.
Three plugins.
Capture any CMIS management bus, then add the plugin that matches it. Each decodes its own transport, so there's nothing else to set up.
// 01
I2CMCI
I2C management
Page and bank state, tracked on top of the I2C bus.
// 02
SPIMCI
SPI management
Command framing and the ACK byte, fully decoded.
// 03
I3CMCI
I3C management
I3C SDR as a transport, ready for the OIF spec.
// applications
Where it fits.
From module bring-up to platform integration, the analyzer plugs into the optical workflow.
Host Firmware Development & Debug
Bring up and debug host firmware for pluggable optical modules like QSFP-DD, OSFP, QSFP112 and SFP-DD.
Module Firmware Bring-Up
Validate module firmware and the management interface as new optical modules come to life on the bench.
Compliance & Interoperability
Debug CMIS compliance and interoperability between hosts and modules, transaction by transaction.
Platform Integration
Integrate pluggable modules into switch, router and NIC platforms with a readable view of the management bus.
CDB & Firmware Download
Trace CDB command and firmware-download exchanges across Page 9Fh and the banked EPL pages (A0h to AFh).
Evaluating I3C as a Transport
Explore I3C as a CMIS management transport ahead of the OIF definition, with the register model applied on top.
// compatibility
Works with the Saleae stack.
Software Compatibility
-
Saleae Logic 2.x
Requires Logic 2; Logic 1.x is not supported
-
Cross-Platform
Windows, macOS & Linux, on x64 and ARM
-
Automation API
Configured and exported like any Logic 2 analyzer
Hardware Compatibility
-
Saleae Logic Pro 8 / Pro 16
Recommended, up to 500 MS/s digital
-
Saleae Logic 8
Bus voltage 1.8 V or higher, up to 100 MS/s
-
Saleae Logic MSO
Analog-domain capture, up to 1 GS/s
Note: these analyzer plugins require hardware and software from Saleae. Logic 2's Data Table carries the register-level decode, so Logic 1.x is not supported. The decode needs at least 4× the bus clock in digital sample rate; 8× or more is recommended.
// licensing
Flexible licensing.
Two tiers of functionality, so you only pay for the features you'll use.
Flex Licensing
Our flex licensing allows the license to be shared among team members working on internet-connected PCs. Perfect for teams that need flexible access across multiple developers.
- Shared among team members
- Internet connection required
- No license server setup required
- Works with any Saleae Logic device
Node-Locked Licensing
Node-locked licenses work on computers without internet access, with no tedious license-server setup required. Ideal for secure or isolated development environments.
- Locked to specific computer
- No internet required
- Works in secure environments
- Works with any Saleae Logic device

A head start on I3CMCI.
Binho is a member of both the OIF and the MIPI Alliance, and co-vice chairs the MIPI I3C Working Group. The moment CMIS adopts I3C, our decode is ready.
