1-Wire Protocol
1-Wire is a single-wire communication protocol developed by Dallas Semiconductor (now Maxim Integrated). As the name suggests, it requires only a single data line (plus ground) for bidirectional communication, making it one of the simplest serial communication protocols available.
The 1-Wire protocol uses a master-slave architecture where a single master device can communicate with multiple slave devices on the same bus. Each device has a unique 64-bit address, allowing many devices to share the same wire. The protocol supports two speed modes: standard speed (15.4 kbps) and overdrive speed (125 kbps).
1-Wire is commonly used for temperature sensors, memory devices, real-time clocks, and identification chips. The protocol's simplicity makes it ideal for applications where minimizing wiring is important, such as in distributed sensor networks and device identification systems.
