Renesas Releases an RF VGA with I3C Control Interface
I was looking through Renesas’s portfolio and stumbled on an I3C device that somewhat bucks the trend (in a good way). The Renesas F0443 is a Dual Matched Broadband RF digital variable gain amplifier designed for use in diversity/MIMO receivers. This is quite a deviation from the typical applications of I3C-capable devices. Up to now, most I3C Target devices have been either (a) sensors for use in mobile phones and tablets, or (b) related to the implementation and management of DDR5 DIMMs.
All the tech specs and datasheet can be found on the product page. I personally do not have an adequate technical background in RF to understand the nuances of this device and it’s potential usecases, but I find it very interesting to see I3C support ending up in an RF amplifier this early in the industry-adoption phase.
Have a good understanding of how this device will be used and why I3C is useful / relevant to it’s success? I’d love to hear from you!
